‘A beautiful disaster’ – An installation by Julia Snowdin.

Dais Boutique was graced by Julia Snowdin today and her latest installation ‘A Beautiful Disaster’.

‘A Beautiful Disaster’ is a thought provoking textile installation which raises the issue of eating disorders, and the connection they have with images in the media.

The spirals are meant to represent individuals, and although beautiful to look at on the outside, have a hidden, more disturbing meaning.

I work as a textile artist producing ceiling installations for gallery and interior spaces. My textile installations are conceptually led but I am keen to focus on the aesthetic features within my design practice, particularly with a view to exploring the use of materials, colours, and structures within specific interiors. From my design development at degree level, I understand how design installations can complement and enhance interior spaces. In my practice, I try to push the boundaries of textiles by taking the traditional two-dimensional technique of knitting, combined with new materials like monofilament and wire, to produce three-dimensional designs, which I display as ceiling installations.
